The Fort Drum Crystal Mine (formerly known as Ruck’s Pit) is about a one and a half hour drive from the gem and mineral society shop. The address is 28330 NE 55th Ave., Okeechobee, FL 34972 and the phone number is: 863-634-4579. The dig is on a working farm and so you need to call ahead and arrange your visit. Be prepared to get dirty and spend a lot of time bent over searching through low piles of calcite and fossils.
